Better Management of Unassigned Scouts

Based on discussions here and Facebook Scouter groups, there’s no simple or reliable method to manage Scouts who drop.

The common wisdom is to create a fake/inactive den and/or ending/unapproving Scout’s membership via legacy Scoutbook. However, this isn’t a simple or complete solution.

Putting dropped Scouts in an inactive den still results in them showing up in Quick Entry for that den’s selected rank. (Creating a den selection for Quick Entry as requested here would help this, but still add an extra step.)

Depending on how membership is ended/unapproved, Scouts still appear/re-appear periodically in unexpected ways (e.g. showing up in lists, re-appearing back in Unassigned, etc.).

Some possible solutions:

  • Allow a den to be created with a null/inactive rank. This is probably the simplest.
  • Create a toggle on a Scout’s profile to mark them inactive, which filters them out of Quick Entry, etc.

@RyanTashma there are Backlog stories to deal with this - we do not know when or if BSA IT will address them
