Scoutbook selecting wrong merit badges for advancements

I have a scout (ID 137504274) that had a board of review for Star back in April. On trying to add that in, scoutbook informed me that he didn’t have enough Eagle badges. Hunting down information, we found that Camping had been completed before the review. However, between the time that we started looking and found Camping, he completed Citizenship in the World, which auto-populated into the Star Merit badge field. We now have a situation where I can’t change that badge to Camping, and so Scoutbook thinks he was ineligible for the rank on the date it was earned.

Is there some way I can change the badges (or force it to repopulate), or do I need help from an admin here?

Thanks!

@JonathanWildstrom this is a known issue - watch the change log for updates

Is there any workaround? I’d like to get the scout properly ranked up to Star in the system.

@JonathanWildstrom Council can enter a star date in their tools

Or you can play the unapprove /undate MB game to get it right.

We hope for a prompt fix on this

@DonovanMcNeil I’m a Council Admin and I have a Scout with the same situation. I am letting your know that Council CANNOT enter the Star Rank in our tools. Akela gives me a similar error, stating the completion date must be after the last requirement completion date - i.e. the bogus merit badge completion date.

@JohnSzalkowski that is in Registrar Tools?

@JohnSzalkowski

We have passed on the issue with Registrar Tools.

@JonathanWildstrom

In some cases editing one of the MBs assigned to the rank, clearing approval, saving, restoring approval, saving, works around the issue completing Star/Life. If this does not work, you will need to wait for the fix. We recommend using a hand written advancement form to purchase the rank if you must purchase the rank patch before the fix and updating Scoutbook after the fix. Here is the advancement form.

I’m having the same problem. A scout completed six badges for Star requirement #3, but the requirement is saying requirement #3 is only started. All requirements were completed well before the advancement date.

Am I correct in understanding that the procedure at this point is to start with unapprove/reapprove all the badges. If that doesn’t work (I’ve done that with one so far), then I record it on paper by hand and wait until a fix is rolled out?

Thanks. This has me so stumped.

@JudyMunger

Post the Scout’s Scouting America Member ID (no names) and we will investigate.

The only known issue is if the Scout completed 6 Eagle Required MBs. In that case there is still an issue that the developers are working on. We can look at the Scout’s record in the DB and determine if this is the known bug or something we have not seen before.

Same issue. Scout ID is 132589877. How soon to get this fixed? I would like to get an ESRA printed but this crazy method of picking the wrong merit badges for Start/Life has me hung up. Or is there a way to disable ‘SCOUTBOOK PLUS’ which doesn’t have this issue, or at least didn’t the last time I used it.

The Eagle Scout Rank Application form should be correct. Please let us know if it is not.

It can’t be correct as I can’t get past the Life rank approval.

Scoutbook Plus is choosing the wrong merit badges starting with STAR. Should have picked 2 non-Eagle and 4 Eagle but it picked all 6 Eagle. Can I change which merit badges go with which rank advancement. i want Basketry/Mammal Study/Swimming/Communication/First Aid/Citizenship in the Nation. Thanks for any information.

ScoutbookPlus for STAR rank picked Swimming/Family Life/Citizenship In Society/Personal Fitness/Citizenship in Society/Camping - all Eagle required.

Actually, the way the requirements read, it could be satisfied by earning six Eagle-required badges. It’s just that SB+ isn’t handling it correctly at the moment.

Unfortunately not easily. You would have to fiddle with the completion dates for the MBs, which might be more trouble than it’s worth.

Thanks for the reply. I would have assumed that ScoutBook Plus would at least be smart enough to pick the earliest earned merit badges that fulfill a requirement, but it seems in all cases to prefer picking Eagle required ones for Star and Life Ranks irrespective of the date earned. This is especially bad for Life Rank as my Scout has earned his last Eagle required badges in the past couple of months after actually earning his Life Rank so I can’t mark that as complete.

Do you know if it’s possible to skip using ‘ScoutBook Plus’ or are we stuck with this less than ready for prime time interface?

I don’t have any particular insight (I’m just a unit ASM), but I understand that Scouts BSA advancement has now moved over to SB+, as Cub Scout advancement did previously, so we’re all wading along together.

I’m kinda surprised it’s not selecting the earliest completed badges already. I know it used to show them that way, at least in the reports. At least the Eagle application is still an editable PDF, so that things can be corrected in terms of sequence (if necessary)? :-P

Scouting America IT does not release fix timelines. The developers know Star and Life are critical and are working to fix the issue as soon as possible.

And yes, it is six required for Eagle that this young person completed.

Well, this is really a poor time to foist this broken software on us when there are Scouts who would like to be able to get the OK for Boards of Review but I can’t create the needed Internet Advancement Record - I realize I can fill out a blank ESRA as needed but I’m still handicapped without the I/A record. I have one Scout who would like to be able to put ‘Eagle’ on his college application, but he’s stuck at this point due to faulty software.

I’d be happy if either 1) I can turn off Scoutbook Plus or 2) I can choose the Merit Badges applied to each rank advancement or 3) Scoutbook Plus wouldn’t favor Eagle Badges over non-Eagle Badges.

@KennethRandell’ why do you need the internet advancement record? That is not required for eagle. As far as turning off scoutbook plus that is a solid no.
