Single BSAID across Scouting America (I.e. multiple councils)

My feature request is to support a single BSAID per scout or adult. Right now a BSAID is per council. This causes several problems:

  • a scout registered in two units which are in different councils
must have a separate BSAID in each council. It confuses the scout, the parent, and the unit leaders. It makes tracking advancement cumbersome, since neither unit’s leader can see the scout’s advancement records from the other unit. The unit leaders must coordinate manually. This is a manual process subject to human error. In our council, it is not unusual for a scout to join a Scouts BSA unit in one council, and a Sea Scout or Venturing unit in a nearby council. I live in Silicon Valley, and there are three councils within 30 miles of my house

  • scouts who move to another council may need to seek administrative help here to move their existing advancement records to their new BSAID in the new council. This is a manual process subject to human error.

This is not in the purview of the SUAC or Scoutbook team. Just about everyone would like this but it is a much larger issue than just IT. This is one of those issues that needs to be pushed by Councils as they have paths to the decision makers that can put the necessary work in place to make this happen.
