Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I was asked to add a second parent to a Cub Scout so that dad receives our emails, same as mom. I invited the dad via Parent Connection in Scoutbook. The Cub Scout’s BSA ID is 140997027. The dad received the email below. The my.Scouting Username is blank and there is a temporary password.
What is the dad’s username? Is it the email by default, or does he need to create one?
Good security prohibits an ID and password from being in the same email.
A better process is for the parent to create a my.scouting.org ID then log in to Scoutbook, go to My Account → My Connections click the link near the top of the page that says Connect as Parent/Guardian. The parent will need the Scout’s BSA Member ID to connect.
After the parent does this, post the parent’s BSA Member ID (no names) and we will check for duplicate IDs.
The reason that I initiate the connection on my side is that many of my Cub parents are computer challenged and their sole purpose to getting added to Scoutbook is to get the pack-wide emails. Even if I cannot see their username, is there a way that the parent can click “forgot user name” or something similar AFTER getting the temporary password?
I understand the preferred process of having the parent create a my.scouting.org ID first, but I need a realistic Plan B. If National BSA would amend the online youth application to have two parent information sections, that would really solve this issue!
The forgot username in scoutbook and my.scouting requires a date of birth, which is not entered when the unit creates it via the scout’s connections. So, that is not a viable option.
